The service is scheduled to start on 28 March 2012, serving passangers twice a week – on Wednesdays and Sundays.

This is the eighth Ryanair’s seasonal line to Zadar airport, the third from Germany.

Other Ryanair flights to Croatian airports include seasonal flights to Rijeka, Zadar and Pula from variety of European airports.

This year’s flights to Dubrovnik Airport will start in mid June, while flights from Belgrade to Pula and Split Airport will start at the beginning of July.

Croatia Airlines, the Croatian national air carrier, has recently officially confirmed that it has introduced many new direct flights in their summer timetable.

New seasonal flights are being added from Zadar airport to Munich and Zurich.

The first regular flight from Zadar to the Bavarian metropolis is scheduled for 3 May whilst from 29 September airplanes on that line will fly twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Direct connection between Zadar and Zurich will start on 20 May and last until 30 September. This line will also operate twice a week, on Mondays and Fridays.

In the summer timetable Croatia Airlines will connect Zagreb with Istanbul on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. Up until now Croatia Airlines had only been leasing seats on the flights of Turkish Airlines for this connection.

Return flights between Dubrovnik and Venice will also be established twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, from 19 May to 23 October this year. The aircraft which will connect these two pearls of the Adriatic is Dash 8-Q400, with the capacity of 76 seats. New flights will also be introduced from Dubrovnik to Athens (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) and from Dubrovnik to Belgrade (Mondays and Wednesdays).

There will also be flights from Split to Hamburg (Tuesdays and Saturdays), and once again, the line between Rijeka and London has been established, with flights on Wednesdays.

Another novelty is that Croatia Airlines, in cooperation with SAS, will fly via Copenhagen to New York and Washington, starting from this summer.

Italian airline Air One, owned by Alitalia, will from 25 September this year introduce a direct line from Milano
Malpensa to Zagreb. It will fly three times a week, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

The new services will operate twice a week  from Dubrovnik to Venice and three times a week from Dubrovnik to Athens.

Return tickets for the new flights can be bought on the company’s web site, in Croatia Airlines offices and offices of its business partners from 01.11.2010.

The national airline already operates flights linking Dubrovnik with Zagreb, Amsterdam, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, London, Rome, Tel Aviv, Vienna and Zurich.

Wizz Air, the largest low cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe announced last week that it would add Split, and Dubrovnik to its choice of destinations from London Luton.

According to WizAir website, starting from 18 June 2010 there will be 4 flights per week  to Split Airport.  From London to Dubrovnik Airport there will be 3 flights per week , starting from 19 June 2010.

For 2010, Lufthansa is increasing its number of regular connections between Munich and Dubrovnik too. From March 27th, five connections a week will be operating between the two cities – on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Lufthansa is also introducing two regular connections between Dusseldorf and Dubrovnik, on Thursdays and Saturdays. The number of flights to Split Airport will be increased to four a week and a connection between Zadar and Munich will also be introduced, operating ever Saturday.

Germanwings and Ryanair are also introducing new 2010 seasonal connections between the Zadar Airport and Hannover, Oslo and Brussels, as well as keeping the all seasonal connections from last year.

The new Germanwings connection to Hannover will start from May 1st till October 30th, once a week – on Saturdays. It is the fourth connection Germanwings has introduced between Zadar and German destinations, the others are with Stuttgart, Cologne, Bonn and Berlin.

Ryanair will for 2010 establish connections between Zadar and nine European destinations. The air-carrier has announced it is introducing a new connection between Zadar and Oslo twice a week from March 31st, on Wednesdays and Sundays. The new connection between Zadar and Brussels will start from May 1st, three times a week  on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. With these new connections, Ryanair will for the very first time connect Croatia with Belgium and Norway.  The air carrier will continue with flights to Zadar  from Britain – London-Stansted and Edinburgh, Ireland  – Dublin, Sweden – Stockholm, Germany – Frankfurt and Dusseldorf-Weeze as well as with Italy – Pisa.

EasyJet, the largest UK airline, today announced it would launch flights to Split and Dubrovnik from London Stanstead Airport.

Flights to Dubrovnik from London Stanstead will start on 15 May. EasyJet will fly this route on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Fares starts from £26.99 one way and £48.98 return.

Flights to Split from London Stanstead will start on 14 May. EasyJet will fly this route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Fares starts from £26.99 one way and £54.98 return.

Beside these two new routes, EasyJet will launch a further 19 new routes in the coming year, taking the total number of routes to be launched across its European network in 2010 to 70. The addition of these new services means the airline will now offer choice of over 500 routes connecting its 19 bases across the UK and the continent to key airports across Europe and North Africa.

British Airways has included Dubrovnik in its ten destinations that it expects to prove popular among travellers in 2010.

This is what BA says about Dubrovnik:

Known as the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik offers privacy and tranquility making it a popular hideout for the jet set, including recent visitors Jay-Z and Beyonce.

Germanwings, a German low cost carrier, will introduce a direct flight from Hamburg on 2 May. Jet2, a British airline, will introduce flights from Edinburgh.

The  Finnish company Blue1 will introduce flights from Helsinki  to Dubrovnik in early spring, on Saturdays, from 3 April  and on Tuesdays as well from 4 May. They will will fly to Dubrovnik twice a week by the end of October. On 30 April, flights from Helsinki to Split will begin and will fly twice a week, on Fridays and Sundays.

The British company Bmibaby is planning to introduce flights from East Midlands airport from 30 May, twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays, while the Scottish airline Flyglobespan has announced that the first plane from Aberdeen to Dubrovnik will take off on 5 May next year, after which there will be a flight connecting the two towns every Wednesday.

The Croatian National Tourist Board organized a welcome ceremony for the 350 passengers and crew-members, who enjoyed a performance of the folklore ensemble, each receiving a traditional gingerbread heart (‘licitarsko srce’) as a gift.

The charter flights are organized by the Japanese agency ‘Hankyu’. For Japanese visitors, they enable faster and easier travel to Zagreb, the capital with the highest increase in the number of visitors from Japan in the region.

Since the World Expo exhibition was held in the Japanese city of Aichi in 2005, Zagreb is witnessing a 50 % annual growth rate in the number of Japanese visitors.

 According to surveys, it is the historical monuments, natural beauties and relaxed way of life that Japanese visitors enjoy most in Zagreb. They also like to visit some cultural institutions.: Museum of Naive Art and the Botanical Garden, which will be celebrating its 120th anniversary in July.

The garden was opened in 1899 and is located within the ‘Lenuci horseshoe’, a stretch of parks and green areas comprising a monumental frame around the lower town. In the garden, numerous rare plants are cultivated. The garden comprises an arboretum, a flower section, 14 greenhouses, three stone areas and two artificial lakes, an inexhaustible source of inspiration to many great Croatian painters. It is on these lakes that the
great aquarelle painter Slava Raškaj painted some of her paintings from the ‘nenuphar’ series. Today, these are considered masterpieces of Croatian aquarelle painting from the turn of the 19th century. As part of the Zagreb University, the Botanical Garden belongs to the School of Natural Sciences and has always had educational, cultural and historical value. For the past couple of decades it has realized its full potential in tourism as well and was proclaimed a monument of garden architecture in 1971.

During the meeting, both parties expressed their wish to inaugurate the seasonal Belgrade-Dubrovnik-Belgrade line, which would operate twice a week, on Thursday afternoons and Monday mornings, as soon as all necessary conditions have been provided.

The meeting was held between Saša Vlaisavljević, Jat Airways Acting Director – General, Vladimir Ognjenović, Jat Airways Commercial Operations Director, Tonči Peović, Airport Dubrovnik Director – General and Frano Leutić, Airport Dubrovnik Deputy General Manager.

The representatives of both parties came to the conclusion that Jat and Airport Dubrovnik should enhance their regional cooperation and that two neighboring countries should foster good relationship leaving the past and the finding of the most acceptable solution for the citizens of both countries in the hands of legal representatives.

On the same day, Saša Vlaisavljević and Vladimir Ognjenović had the meeting with Jelka Tepšić, Dubrovnik Tourist Board Director, and  managers of all the best hotels in the Dubrovnik area. The Croatian partners expressed their readiness to welcome all tourists from Serbia.

After the inauguration of flights to Pula, which are in operation for the second year in sequence now, Dubrovnik would be the second destination of Jat services toward Croatia.

The last Dubrovnik-Belgrade flight was performed on 6th of August, 1991.

There will be two weekly flights on Thursdays and Sundays.

The prices are starting  from 19 Euros for one-way flight.

The intention of Ryanair is to service the Frankfurt to Osijek route during the summer months only, but there is a possibility of extending the flights throughout the year.

Dubrovnik has excellent air connections with the European destinations in spring and summer 2009. The results achieved by the new carriers will also enable good connection of Dubrovnik Airport with the rest of the world throughout the year:

Easy Jet will fly this spring to Dubrovnik from London four times a week, from Berlin three times a week, from Liverpool three times a week and from Geneva two times a week.

Jet 2 airline will bring the passengers from Leeds and Belfast to Dubrovnik.

Norwegian Air will connect Dubrovnik with the Scandinavian countries flying from Oslo, Trodheim, Bergen, Stavanger and Stockholm.

Clickair and Iberia will connect Dubrovnik with Madrid and Barcelona: Click air will operate to Dubrovnik on a daily basis and Iberia two times a week.

German destinations including Frankfurt, Berlin, Düsseldorf, Köln/Bonn, Stuttgart, Hanover and Munich the carriers Germanwings, Hapagloyd, Croatia Airlines and Easyjet will fly to Dubrovnik three to four times a week.

Centralwings, Danube Wings, Sky Europe and Norwegian Air Shuttle will fly from Bratislava, Warsaw and Poznan two times a week.

Austrian Airlines, Sky Europe and Croatia Airlines will have direct flights from Vienna to Dubrovnik on a daily basis.

Jetairfly will fly from Brussels to Dubrovnik two times a week and Skyeurope will have two flights a week from Prague.

Estonian Air will fly from Tallinn to Dubrovnik on Saturdays, and Blue 1 from Helsinki on Mondays and Thursdays.

Croatia Airlines will introduce in April a direct flight from Paris.

Aerlingus will connect Dubrovnik with Dublin three times a week.

British Airways flies from London several times a week throughout the year, and on a daily basis during the tourist season.

Croatia Airlines also connects Dubrovnik with London four times a week during the tourist season, with Frankfurt three times a week throughout the year, as well as with Rome two times a week. Once a week Dubrovnik will have direct flights from Kiev/Ukraine, Edinburgh, Luxembourg, Geneva, Tel Aviv, Amsterdam, Southampton, Birmingham, etc.

The flights from Stockholm to Zadar Airport are sheduled to start in on 01.04.09, flying twice per week, on Wednesdays and Saturdays:

• On Wednesdays, the flights will take off  from Stockholm at 16.05 , arriving in Zadar at 18.50. Returning from Zadar, the flights will take off at 19.15, arrving in Stockholm at 22.00.
• On Saturdays, the flights will take off from Stockholm at 13.00, arriving in Zadar at 15.45. Returning from Zadar, the flights will take off at 16.10 arriving in Stockholm at 18.55.

Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki will be connected with Split and Dubrovnik by direct flights during the summer season.

Norwegian low-budget airline Norwegian Air and Denmark’s Cimber Air will take over flights previously arranged with the bankrupted Icelandic airline Sterling from the Danish capital to Croatia.

From June 2009, Croatia Airlines will introduce direct weekly flights from Gothenburg to Split and Dubrovnik, and during the season there will be additional flights between Copenhagen and Zagreb. (source www.hina.hr)

Croatia Airlines chief executive Ivan Misetic has one key mission for 2009: maintain the traffic levels recorded by the carrier in 2008 by working closely with the Croatian tourism board to promote the country as a holiday destination.

“The main goal for 2009 is to protect the levels of 2008,” says Misetic, who has led the airline as chief executive since 1997. “Tourism represents a quarter of GDP in Croatia, so with the tourism board we will do our utmost to protect the figures from last year.” He adds that Croatia Airlines “does not feel the impact at the moment” of the global economic slowdown, although he does point out that forward bookings are “less attractive” than they were this time last year… Read the complete article here

EasyJet, the UK’s largest airline, today announced that it is opening 14 new routes across Europe, for summer 2009.  

Four of the new routes are flying to Dubrovnik :

• London Gatwick to Dubrovnik flights starts at 1st of May 2009, flying Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
• Liverpool to Dubrovnik flights starts 2nd of June 2009, flying Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
• Geneve to Dubrovnik flights starts 6th of July 2009, flying on Mondays and Thursdays.
• Berlin to Dubrovnik flights starts 12th of July 2009, flying Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Nine of the new routes will operate from UK regional airports, giving travellers even more choice of popular destinations. Fares for the new routes will start from just £22.99 including tax.

As part of the expansion, easyJet will base an additional aircraft at Liverpool from 1 June 2009 and at Manchester from 4 August 2009.

EasyJet also flies to Split from Bristol, London Gatwick and Geneve.

Dash 8-Q400 aircraft will replace the existing fleet of short-range planes of the Croatian air carrier.

The delivery was made under an agreement Croatia Airlines signed with Bombardier Aerospace on 31 May 2007.

The delivery of the next Dash 8-Q400 is expected in a month’s time.

Currently, the Croatia Airlines fleet consists of 11 planes – four Airbus A319, four Airbus A320, two ATR42 and one Dash 8-Q400. (source Hina)

Pula Airport has also started to welcome flights from the German cities of Dresden, Leipzig, Rostock, Berlin and Erfurt, as well as Paris, France.

In May, Pula Airport will have direct flights to Cologne, Amsterdam, Moscow, Newcastle, Eindhoven, Bordeaux, Nantes, Manchester and Edinburgh, while flights to Stockholm and Yekaterinburg will be available from early June.

Centralwings, a low-cost offshoot of the Polish state airline, LOT,  established in 2004, is beginning to fly from Krakow (Poland)  to Dubrovnik  on 10 June 2008.
Between 10th of June and 28th of September, the flights from Krakow to Dubrovnik wil depart every Tuesday at 9.45 am arriving at Dubrovnik Airport at 11.15am.
Return flights from Dubrovnik to Krakow will be on the same days, departing at 12.00 pm arriving in Krakow at 13.30 pm. Prices of flights are advertised as from 39,99 EUR gross.

They also reported that the ordeal the 150 passengers of the Zagreb Friday afternoon flight to London began after the flight was initially postponed for Saturday at 8 o’clock in the morning, but in the end the actual flight took place 3 p.m., nearly 24 hours after it should have taken off.

It has been also said that WizzAir officials made no attempt to contact the stranded passengers and the company did not even offer to pay for their hotel accommodation, as according to WizzAir rules, passengers have such rights once the flight is delayed by more than seven hours…
