Hotel Belvedere in Dubrovnik will re-open in two years

Hotel Belvedere in 1985According to some regional daily newspapers, Hotel Belvedere in Dubrovnik will hopefully re-open in two years.

While shareholders are currently busy discussing reconstruction arrangements in terms of money, shares, planning permissions etc, Orsula, near Sveti Jakov – one of Dubrovnik’s most prestigious locations, still houses this ruined hotel.

Hotel Belvedere once used to be the most exclusive place to stay in the area – a five-star cascade building, located on the slope above sea shore, with views of Dubrovnik Old Town and the island of Lokrum. Unfortunately, it is out of use for last 15 years as on 24 October 1991 this hotel has been brutally attacked, and destroyed in a naval bombardment by Serbian military forces.

Prior to that attack, Hotel Belvedere was the true pride of Dubrovnik tourism. This postcard from 1980′s is reminder of that times.
