Medieval Frescoes found in Zadobarje near Karlovac

ArtFive hundred years old frescoes have been discovered at the church of Sveti Antun Pustinjak in Zadobarje near Karlovac.

This valuable artwork is discovered by accident, when the plaster started falling off the walls and revealed the entire interior walls are covered by medieval paintings.

frescoe-zadobarje.jpgRestorers from Ministry of Culture of Croatia believe the frescoes were painted between 1495 and 1511.

They assume there may be more frescoes painted at the exterior walls of the church.

The church has been instantly declared as a cultural monument of the first category.

The reconstruction of the church is expected later this year.
