New Agency for Coastal Maritime Transport

The Coastal Shipping Agency, inaugurated in Split on Saturday by the Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Senader, is a further step in the Government’s aspirations to improve current ferry links between the Croatian Mainland and its islands.

For the 2007 budget, The Ministry of the Sea, Tourism, Transport and Development has allocated approximately EUR 45 million to improve ferry services with the Croatian Islands.

The newly opened agency, based in Split, will encourage smaller companies to get involved and participate in the market competition.

This step continues the process of the last three years of the construction and upgrade of 43 Croatian ports.

By the end of next year, the plans are to improve all other ports along the Croatian Adriatic, especially the ones that connect mainland with the islands.
