The museum of Olive Oil Making at Island of Brac

oil museum bracThe Museum of Olive Oil Making is opened in the village of Mirca - small place located on the northern part of the island of Brac. The village has always been known as a village of oil makers.

The museum is located in the premises of the existing oil making facility, constructed in the 1950’s. Old machines, photographs and olive products, from oil to the ever more popular olive soap, are for the moment exhibited in one room in which olives will be processed during the harvest.

During the tourist season it serves as info-point of the Tourist Board of the nearby town of Supetar and the village of Mirca. Read the rest of this entry »

Lipnicka Gorica, Ribnjak - Rural destination of Croatia

hotel koranaThe village of Lipnicka Gorica in the municipality of Ribnjak, situated on the Croatian-Slovene border in Karlovac County, was  recently declared extinct and non-existent, but today it is the home of the rural tourism Srakovcic Estate owned by Karlovac hospitality industry businessman Ivan Srakovcic.

Almost 90% of the population of Lipnicka Gorica and other settlements  in this passive region in the western corner of Karlovac County  have moved away over the past 50 years, which has almost resulted in their disappearance from geographic maps. Read the rest of this entry »
