After New Year's Eve, where to go ?

Hi, we're planning a 5-day trip to Croatia (Kvarner/Istria) the first week of January 2010
 there are 2 options:
1) somewhere on the sea but not too crowded
2) somewhere in the mountains obviously not too crowded
 medium budget
any ideas highly appreciated

I don't believe there will be any crowd at this time of the year in any ot your choosen places.
Perhaps if you like nature, you can consider Ucka mountain, for nice walks and views.
There are some private accommodation around there you can stay in.
Have you got your own car or rent a car with you?

Ucka  yes, good idea.

Worth to visit at Ucka mountain are villages Vela and Mala Ucka, as they are the only villages that are located so high ? at about 900 m! The main activity in these vilalges are agriculture and cattle as well as some tourism too. In the village Vela Ucka there is a well known inn, popular among tourists.
