Traveling through Dalmatia by boat or ferry

Hi there,
I am going to Croatia wih a friend in September and I will expend 9 days in Dalmatia (Zadar, Split, Hvar and Dubrovinik). I was planning to travel from one city to other by boat or ferry and I am looking for some information:
- I could not find in the internet a ferry line from Zadar to Split. Does it exist?
- The ferry from Split/Hvar to Dubrovinik (Jadrolinija) runs only twice a week and takes long hours to arrive in Dubrovinik. Is there other options?
- Would it be a worth option to rent a boat to travel from one city to other. Is it easy to rent a boat?
