Best route to drive up the Croatian Coast?

JonneyGuestHi,
My girlfriend and I are arriving in Dubrovnik by car ferry in August and plan to spend two weeks driving up the Croatian coast, camping along the way. So if anyone can answer any of the following questions for me, I’d be very grateful.
What the best route? Where can’t we miss? How should we see the islands? Should we take our car onto the islands or just go for the day on foot? Where should we avoid?
We also then plan to drive back up to Calais to get the ferry back over the channel, does anyone have any tips on a quick route up through Austria and Germany?
Cheers,
Jonney

Drive from Dubrovnik to Prapratno on Peljesac, take ferry from there to Sobra on Mljet Island.
Drive from Prapratno to Orebic, take ferry from there to visit Korcula Island.
From Korcula take ferry to Hvar (Stari Grad) or ferry to Drvenik and from there ferry to Sucuraj (Hvar Island)
From Hvar take ferry to Split and drive to Trogir, Krka National Park and Sibenik.
Further up the coast is Zadar – visit Kornati Islands National Park – don’t take car for islands around Zadar, lot of them are car-free zones. Take day trips for these.
Further up the coast you can visit Losinj, Cres, Rab and Krk islands. Krk has a bridge, so no ferry needed.Once you finish with islands, drive/ferry to Rijeka and accross the Slovenia border to Austria or Italy.

Agree with everything, except the last sentence.I would stay in Cres and take a ferry to Istria (line Porozine-Brestova). In Istria you have some of the best camping facilities in Europe. If you base yourself in a camp near Pula, you can go on day trips to Brijuni National Park or Venice, or you can drive around Istria, see some spectacular scenery and enjoy some proper wine and dine festivities.
Hope you had a great time.
Cheers
