    Hi,

We are two ladies from South Africa that would like to travel in Croatia by camper.  Is it safe?  Is it relatively cheap? Any ideas are welcome.

Hi ladies, yes, it is safe.
    Is it cheap?
    Depends.
Try to camp in small campsites and out of the main tourist season (15.07-15.08)

Thank you for the reply.  We plan to be in Croatia from Sep 4 to Sep 18, 2009.  According to travel guides it is quite expensive to stay in hotels and we thought that a camper may be cheaper as you have your own bed and can make your own dinners and lunches.  We do not plan to stay in big campsites but are looking for the smaller sites – would like to stay next to the sea.  The size of the camper (6 mtrs) bothers us a bit for parking and driving in towns.

It’s true that hotels can be relatively expensive, especially in some of the touristy spots…however have you thought of other alternatives such as hostels? You can get some really good value ones: try hostelworld.com/ to search.

Also, you could try renting self catering accommodation, for example. Like with the camper you can make your own food which usually works out a lot cheaper than having to eat out or eating in a hotel. Try http://www.casamundo.co.uk/croatia/ for a selection all over Croatia (I don’t think you mentioned where you wanted to stay!!) or http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/Croatia/r1015.htm which are more concentrated around the coast etc.

For more information on camping in Croatia in general you could also try this website: https://www.campingcroatia.net/..

    hi Miranda,

i ve been traveling up and down croatia coast for the last 2 months in a camper. its quite safe and i think thousands other campers will agree.
as i understand, you are an explorer….and should remmember one thing….camping outside of campings is not allowed….though, under camping is understood spending more then one night on the same spot….if you move, no problems.
also, i m renting out my camper very cheap….if you would be interested, let me know.
