I travelled from Dubrovnik to Italy in July 2008 with my wife and 2 young children.  We had a lot of difficulty finding the best way to get there.  This seems to be a common problem, especially outside the peak summer season when there aren’t many ferries.  We found the best solution was to take a train to Trieste (8 hours) and a bus (2.5 hours)through Slovenia to Trieste where we arranged to be checed in with a rental car at the bus station.  It can be hard to book a rental car in Croatia over the internet if you want to be met at a specific place, if you want to drop the car off at a different place from the pick up or if you want to hire in Croatia and drive to Italy

The rental car company we dealt with was absolutely incredible with the lengths they went to to help us out – even giving us a free lift to the airport 2 days before we took the car. We had a brand new car, brand new child car seat and the cost quoted was exactly what we paid down to the last kuna – something I didn’t find renting from Hertz and Europcar in other countries on the trip – and we arranged it all from London.  We are going back this year and they have been even more helpful with our arrangements.  I have rented well over 200 rental cars before in different countries and I have never received service as good as the service I got from this company.
