  Hello, I have 5 friends flying into Venice (from USA) and they plan to rent a car to drive to Split and meet me on Hvar.  Does anyone have suggestions on car rental companies?  Will it be a problem renting in Italy, driving into Croatia and back?  Is there a bus/train from Venice to Split that avoids Zagreb?  Thanks!!!

  You have several options

  1. rent a car in venize and give it back in venize should not be a problem to drive into croatia- you could try sixt or avis
  2. You can take venezialines from Venice to Pula ( is quite expencive) – from there you can take bus to Split.
  3. you can take bus, the company http://www.fils.hr have bus from venice to Pula – bus leaves at 11 from Venice and should be in pula around 17.25 – from there you can take bus to Split.

  I would cleary recommend renting a car otherwise the journey could get quit long, from Venice it should take them 6.5 hours to get to Split.
