    Croatia:

    Croatia is a lovely place, especially the Dalmation coast. I was REALLY impressed with the country and wish I had the money and time to go back. Maybe someday in the future, I will be able to.

    Tip: Learn some Croatian before you go – at least enough to order food and figure the days of the week on a bus schedule. Many Croatians speak English; most do not. My mom asked for the check at a small Italian restaurant and got green tea with lemon instead. Apparently, the tea was good, so that was still okay.

    Tip: Go to Dubrovnik rather than Split if you want to visit one or the other. Dubrovnik is smaller and less touristy than Split, and I much preferred the atmosphere. Be careful of the land mines from the war if you go beyond the more frequented areas in the hills. Also, order the hot chocolate. It is pure heaven.

    Peeve: Depending on when you come, it can be really warm. I LOVED December. I believe I would have really disliked July.

    Peeve: Ferry system isn’t particularly good during the off season from Dubrovnik, and you have to be careful not to get stranded for the evening even during the high season. The islands are still worth it.
