Hi, I wonder if someone might be able to help?!

I am travelling with my wife and 3 other couples flying to Split Airport  https://www.find-croatia.com/split-airport/ this coming Monday (25th May) landing 9.25am local time. I would like to know the best way to get to Hvar (we are staying in Stari Grad).

What times do the ferries go and is it best to hire a car at Split to make the most of our short visit?

What is the cost of 2 people and a small car?

Also, as we are travelling back on Thursday morning (28th May), flight leaves 10.00am, are there any issues with the ferries that we need to be aware of, bearing in mind we need to check in at Split around 8.00am.

Thank you so much in advance for any responses to this!!

    Kind regards

    jcb

    Hi Jcb,

On the 25th you have car ferry leaving Split at 14:30 so that would be best option.

One way prices for ferry is 38 kuna p.p. and 257 Kuna for a car, so if I where you I would browse the net to check rental price in Split airport, versus rental price in Stari grad, any way for you trip back you will have quite tight schedule, ferry leaves Stari grad at 06:00 which means it will be in Split between 0815 and 08:30 so you will not have that much time for reaching the airport, but you should be able to manage to get there till 09:15.

    regards,

    Hi/ Dobro vecer,

I also have a similar enquiry, I want to go to Hvar on Thursday the 10th Sept by ferry. Are the times the same for 2009 as 2008 as I cant seem to find any. I know its a bit early to be planning but I’m excited! And I need to come back to Split pretty early the following day..or ideally Zadar but I dont think theres any ferry routes to there? Plenty of buses by the looks of things though. Does anybody know what time the ferrys are on Thurs 10th to hvar and friday the 11th to split?
    Much Appreciated!

    Hi,
I’m traveling on July 18th to Split by plane and have rented a car. I understand that the only car ferries to Hvar island go from Split to Stary Grad. Is it possible to reserve a place on the ferry? I’ve read some horro stories in the internet about waiting in long cues to get a place on the car ferry. How can I avoid that? On the Jadrolinia webpage I was not able to see how to book such a ferry.
    Thanks, sfl

    Hi everyone,

In a similar situation, travelling to Hvar for a few night in August, but not planning on renting a car – a Croatian friend told me there is normally no problem getting ferries to Hvar from Split for foot passengers, he believes they run very frequently all day long. I can’t seem to find confirmation of this anywhere, I see some schedules for bigger boats, but many of them only seem to run once or twice daily. Can anyone confirm how easy it is to get out to Hvar as a foot passenger? Do I need to make reservations in advance?

    Thanks a lot,
    Anton

Most frequent departures from Hvar to Vis is the Car ferry from Starigrad to Split

You have the following catamaran connection (Persons only)

Split – Bol (Brac) – Jelsa Hvar  Departure Hvar 06:00 (Sun 07:00)

    Split – Milna (Brac) – Hvar(Town) –  Departure Hvar 13:00 (Tue 13:15)

I plan to arrive in Split in the early morning on Saturday, October 3 and want to get to Hvar town directly without going to Stari Grad and taking a bus.  We do not have car.  I can’t seem to find any ferries that go to Hvar in the morning.  I suppose we could hang around Split but I’d sooner get to our apartment in Hvar and get rid of our luggage.  Can any one help with this matter ?  Thanks, Gerry

Hi Garry, no catamaran in the morning. so you have to hang out in Split for some hours.
The best site to check all timetables is croatiaferries.com, so check there all possible options and ferry connections.

Thanks Solitum – I was suspecting that to be the answer.  I was trying to choose between flying to Split from Zagreb or taking the train.  The plane arrives at 07:00 whereas the train arrives at 12:20 so the train is the better choice for making a connection to a ferry to Hvar town.  And I guess the scenery will be better too.  Do you know what this train trip is like?  I know it takes about 6 hours but I’d get to see more of Croatia than if I fly.  Thanks, Gerry

    Hi
I have a related question. We are arriving on the Cat from HVAR into Split at 7.30am on Thursday 17th September. Our Easyjet flight leaves Split airport at 10.05am. IS there going to be enough time to get from the Ferry port to the airport (no later than 09.00am). We want to get the airport bus, not an expensive taxi.

    Cheers

There is also another car ferry going to the island of Hvar, for the brave ones! It is sailing from Drvenik, a small town south of Makarska, there are also people hanging around but I think it is not as crowded as in Split, and if someone has time… It arrives to the eastern point of the island, but it is a very nice way to get to know the island… the views are nice! And the ferry boat is just half hour!
