jhugosSpectatorWhile sailing around the Croatian islands is an ever popular pastime, combining the sailing with all the parties and events in the area is far from trivial. As a result I?ve put together an itinerary that combines the best of the area with a realistic sailing itinerary, most suitable for July and August, although all but the most hardened party-goers may need a holiday after a week like this.
Saturday
Arrive and get settled, with the first night aboard in a quiet bay on Brac as an introduction to the yacht and sailing.
Alternatively, spend the night in Split and visit the ?Tribu? club, with its Saturday night all-nighters, pool, dancers and lounge style outdoor area.Sunday
Jelsa ? Hvar Island (Villa Verde ? Vertigo club)
Spend the day swimming in the bays of Northern Hvar and arrive in Jelsa in the late afternoon. A great place to chill out to great music and cocktails is ?Villa Verde?, one of my favourite places to spend a lazy afternoon. The mojitos are great, it?s the mint from the Villa Verde garden that gives it the bit of magic.
If you are still feeling lively later in the evening, go to the British run Vertigo club, which runs beach parties as well during July and AugustMonday
Korcula town (Tower cocktail bar)
Visit Korcula town for the evening for some great food and watch the sunset from the Tower cocktail bar. Earlier in the day, it might be an idea to visit Lumbarda, just outside Korcula for a spot of diving and swimming.Tuesday
Istruga bay ? Korcula island (Oooze festival)
Sail North to Istruga bay for my tip of the season, which is the Ooze Festival that runs from mid July to late August. It?s a cosy event, In an extraordinarily beautiful and remote canyon location that?s not that easy to access, and an ideal place to visit by yacht. Spend the afternoon sipping cocktails on one of Craotia?s rare sandy beaches, and enjoy the many dj performances throughout the night.Wednesday
Hvar town ? Hvar (Carpe Diem, Veneranda club)
Probably THE place to be this Summer, and you?ll enjoy mooring up on the town Riva, next to the many super yachts, and be able to step off straight into Carpe Diem, one of the dalmatian islands best known venues. Don?t forget the often overlooked ?Veneranda? club, set in hills above hvar in an old Franciscan monastery, and an ideal location for a wild night after hanging out with the beautiful people at CDThursday
Vis town
Your one chance to take a well earned break and go to Vis town for a fantastic dinner at the ?Pojoda? or ?Villa Kaliopa? restaurant and a good nights sleep.Friday
?Sismis bar? ? Solta island
Sailing back towards Split, for your last night at sea, I heartily recommend Friday nights in Sesula Bay, at ?Sismis? (?The Bat?) beach bar, who?s Friday nights have been renowned but not publicised amongst the locals, and yachties in the know.Saturday
An early arrival back in your marina, courtesy of your skipper, while you are still probably sleeping. -
