My travel plans in Croatia just changed and I need some help. I am not renting a car but planned originally to visit Zagreb and Zadar (each for 2 days) before heading to Dubrovnik where I’m doing a boat and bike trip to Split. Now I find that I will have 6 additional days to explore Croatia after I leave Zagreb and before going to Zadar. And I’d like to spend it in Istria. Does anyone have suggestions as to what places I should visit for interesting sights but that are accessible either via bus or train? (And, how I can get to Zadar from Istria?) Thanks for any help.

A few days in Rovinj then on to Opatija before going towards Zadar, Not sure about the ferry, the bus might be the better choice. Do not miss Plitvice lakes!

    Hello
We just got back from a fortnight in Istria area. Beautiful!!!
You can base yourself in Pula and visit the many parts of Istria from there. Also, from Pula, a boat (catamaran) Bisovo goes to Zadar every couple of days. We’ve used it to go to the island of Unije. You can get more details from tourist agencies in Pula, especially the ones in the port. You can use buses to get to Rovinj or Porec. There are plenty of things to see, but it is easier with the car.
Hope this helps and let me know if I can help you further.
    Cheers
