Sunbather’s bottom removed from ‘sexist’ Croatian tourist board TV commercial

A clip in a TV advertising campaign has been pulled from the airwaves over criticisms that its focus on a sunbathing woman’s bottom is derogatory to women.The Croatian tourist board commercial came under fire from the country’s Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor who called the three-second-long sequence ‘sexist’. The 30-second advert, which has already aired on CNN and the BBC, has also been condemned by women’s groups as encouraging ‘sex tourism’. On the tourist board’s website, the marketing agency responsible excused itself by saying that ‘we did not completely take into account the wider context’.

The BBDO marketing agency said on the tourist board’s website that when shooting the commercial “we did not completely take into account the wider context” of showing a woman’s body and the offending shot had been removed.
