  I want to tour the islands off the coast of Dubrovnik in June 2007;
  From I have learned, getting to the islands wil be fairly easy, but
  once I get to an island, is there transportation? Can I rent a ca on
  the islandsr? The islands are too big to walk across in a day.

  I have considered renting a car and taking a car ferry, but from I
  have learned, the car ferries don’t operatre every day. I would refer
  to take the faster boats.

  Well, it depend at which island you want to go.  😮

  Some has better public transport, others not as good. Some islands don’t have any transport at all.
  First check if there are any cars allowed at particular island of your interest, then check webpage that cover that island.
